Today we will be revealing our mudroom + powder bath. This project was so much fun for us because my husband assisted with his very first DIY! And I do have to say, I am VERY impressed. Now I know I can put him to work for other DIY projects I have on my wish list. (Sorry, Jared!)
To begin, we have the mudroom. A mudroom is a great practical element for any family home. It helps serve as a drop zone for bags, shoes and keys to keep the rest of the homes clutter at bay. A mudroom can also be a great way to add a bit of character near the owners entry. Our goal was to have ours practical yet elegant.
First, we have the striking accent wall that my lovely husband completed! For the paint color, I wanted a warm gray with a neutral undertone. Mindful Gray by Sherwin Williams was the perfect option to achieve this. Next, we have this gorgeous upholstered bench. A bench is a must need in every mudroom. Not only does it create the perfect moment with our decor pillows but it doubles as a place to sit to take on/off your shoes as well as providing storage underneath. Win-win!
A mudroom isn't complete without hooks for hanging backpacks, coats, and hats. The brass finish of the hooks brings some warmth against the gray accent wall.
The final touch that really tied this entire space together while making it personal to us are these two framed pieces. The gorgeous gold frame is a scene of our breathtaking mountains that we are spoiled with in Arizona. The top frame holds a very sentimental item to Jared. It a license plate from all of his travels he embarked on before we started a family!
Finally we have the powder bath! I had my eye on this unique wallpaper for years but never seemed to have a project to use it in, so naturally I had to have it in my personal home when the opportunity arose. This wallpaper really served as the jumping off point for the design. The vibe I went for was moody. This deep jeweled toned blue/green paint color complimented the blue tones in wallpaper so we painted it on the wainscot, crown and ceiling.
Since space was limited in this small powder bath of ours, that meant we couldn't use the side sconces that I originally wanted. However, I was so excited when I found these really delicate, slim sconces that accommodate and accentuate this space so well. I love how the black finish of the fixtures coordinates perfectly with the black hardware on the vanity.
To finish this project off, I wanted a flooring that was eye catching, but subtle. This intricate marble mosaic tile by Jeffrey Court achieved just that. With a small footprint, a large tile would have done a disservice, so we picked something that was small scale to help give the illusion that the room is larger than it really is.
