Project Reveal: DC Ranch Remodel

Today we are revealing our renovation of a home in the DC Ranch neighborhood. Our clients live in a beautiful Spanish-style home that unfortunately had a French-country kitchen which didn't fit the house at all. We wanted to restore this space to its full glory by bringing in a more modern Spanish style, so we used custom arched cabinets paired with a neutral color palette. These beautiful hexagon Saltillo floor tiles are original to the home, and we opted to keep them. The clients love to cook and entertain so we made sure that that new appliance placement and storage solutions would maximize function to suit their needs.

We placed the range inside a niche to create a focal point, with the sink opposite on a large island. We chose creamy white for the perimeter cabinets and warm wood stain for the island, and then topped both with a gorgeous stone slab. The handmade subway tile backsplash adds some texture, but we used a hand-painted terra-cotta tile behind the range for some color.

Butlers' Pantry

The butlers' pantry is just beyond an arched doorway. We used the same cabinet profile and hardware that is in the main kitchen, but we painted it a dark, moody color called Down Pipe by Farrow & Ball. It really pops in the neutral space and contrasts really well with the terra cotta flooring. To dress the windows, we had a pair of roman shades made that tie in with the cabinet color.

Dining Space

The adjacent dining area had a good base with wood windows on three sides and heavy wood beams, we just swapped out the chairs and chandelier to lighten the space a bit.

Powder Bath

We pulled out the flooring in the powder bath and replaced it with an amazing handmade tile from Tabarka Studio. For the vanity, we topped an already beautiful dresser with a custom marble top then added a brass faucet with classic cross handles. The black iron mirror and sconces echo the iron railing on the staircase, which is just outside, and the lucite detail on the sconces gives it all just a touch of a modern edge.
